The extra-ordinary quality and superb craftsmanship of this outdoor water furnace is supported by the fact that there are many 10 to 20 year old Portage & Main outdoor furnaces functioning without problems.

Ash pan and the water cooled grates allow the Portage and Main to bring combustion air in under the grates and over the fire just below the vertical baffle to allow for a more complete burn of gases-quick recovery and reduced smoke emissions.    Also because of the water cooled ash grates and the ash pan, the bottom 1/3 of our stove is not full of ash, we are able to radiate heat into the bottom 1/3 of the fire box which is the cold area and best potential for heat transfer.

The one piece roof of the Portage & Main outdoor water furnace is powder-coated  paint for long life.  The roof has no trims to rust and deteriorate.  It will look good in 25 years.  All components of the Portage & Main Outdoor Water Furnace are painted with excellent enduring products.  The multi-pass heat exchange is completed surrounded by the water jacket which increases the efficiency.  The furnace has a high efficiency rating.  The round fire box has all seams double welded (boiler style).  Journeyman Welders will attested to the significance and importance of this.

The fire pot is completely surrounded by water to maximize heat transfer and built in "Johnson Controls"-- digital water temperature controls automatically adjust the damper. W44 cold rolled steel pickled in oil is used for a long lasting low maintenance fire pot  All surfaces are insulated or water cool for safe operation.  Portage & Main even allows you to clean the ash tray safely while the furnace is operating.

Standard Models come with cleaning tool, certified chemical water treatment and standard stainless steel chimney.

Portage & Main Outdoor Water Furnaces (wood burners) are available in four sizes--ML 30, ML 36, ML 42 and ML 54.  They are CSA approved.  Non Insulated models are also available.
