Here is What Customers are Writing About Wood Burners...
- "I am the proud owner of a Portage and Main ML36 outdoor boiler. We purchased our unit in November 2007, just one month after the purchase of our family dream home.
The problem with our dream home was that it was an 1864 Victorian with no insulation and 4000 square feet. The previous owner's electric bill was $700. per month and that was setup on equalized billing. My wife and I knew that we couldn't couldn't continue to heat the house in this manner. After much research we decided on an outdoor boiler and we couldn't be happier.
We dropped the heating bills in the house by 60% and that was in the horrible winter of 2008. The house is always warm and comfortable and it would not have been possible without our outdoor furnace. As great as out furnace is, the customer service is just as professional. The sales rep called us on many occasions to make sure we were happy and spent time on site during the installation to oversee the project."

- "Finished the first season with my new Portage & Main Furnace. We should have bought one years ago. We have a large farm house with a large garage. The temperature stayed constant all winter. Also no more throwing wood in the basement with all the mess, bugs, and smoke. The Portage & Main is a great investment for this climate."

- "We purchased our outdoor furnace after having a couple of flue fires last winter that convinced us that the cost of the furnace versus possibly losing our home was worth the investment. Although we heated our 3,000 sq. ft. two story home with a forced air wood furnace and an air tight wood stove, the house was never really comfortable. We wanted to continue to use a renewable fuel and after researching all the options available we choose the Portage and Main wood burning furnace because it offered a dual pass heat exchanger - a concept we liked. We were skeptical that a radiator with hot water circulating through it could heat the house, but it has. The larger fire box of the outdoor furnace allows us to leave and know that when we return the house will still be warm. We fill it three times a day but could get away with two. We are now heating our domestic hot water via the outdoor furnace and have plenty of hot water without using the oil hot water heater."

- "We have had our Portage & Main Outdoor Furnace since 1997. The only thing we have had to replace was the pump, once. We are very happy with it. We noticed we use less wood than other makes in the neighborhood, as much as 50% or more."

- "We purchased a Portage and Main zero pressure boiler in 1996. My son and I installed it in the summer. ... We heat a two-story home and a two-car garage. All I have ever done is replace the damper control in 10 years. I think this speaks for the quality of the furnace. We are more than pleased with the furnace and would recommend it to anyone."

- "I bought a Portage and Main wood furnace in 1996. I hooked it up that fall to my house and my shop. I began using it the winter of 1996-1997. I still am using it today. It was and still is the best solution for my farm. I really like how easy it is to control the temperature inside the house and how easy it is to fill up with wood every day. I have never had any trouble with this furnace. It is a really good investment."

- "We bought our Portage and Main outdoor furnace in September of 2007. It’s a great unit! It keeps our house warm and toasty at a constant heat. No more messy wood in the basement, and the part I like best, no more fire in the basement. I sleep better at night. Ours also heats our garage, and supplies us with lots of hot water.
We have received the very best of service from our dealer, John Moore, who was always available to answer any questions or concerns we had. John is also a certified WETT inspector, which a lot of insurance companies require to install any wood burning device. We would recommend one of these furnaces to anyone in the market for a new source of heat.

- "Thank you for having introduced me to the Portage & Main outdoor wood furnace. This past heating season 2007 - 08 has been the most economical heating season since we moved into our home 17 years ago. Our electricity consumption has diminished by 5 - 6 times what it was during the same time period last year.
My advice to any one serious about saving money on their heating bill is to take the leap of faith and buy a unit.
Again thank you for the furnace."
Yours Sincerely
~Fred New Brunswick, Canada
PS: The free hot water is a real plus!!!!!!
- "Our wood boiler emits little smoke, depending upon the quality of the wood and the point in the burn cycle. The size of wood it can handle is limited only by the strength of the person loading it. Small people can manage this furnace as well. A firebox loaded with a few large pieces of fuel can easily burn for 12 hours. This furnace is easy to light. Most importantly, it keeps the floor of our 2,000 square foot bungalow warm."

- "What a great heating system! We have had our Portage of Main Outdoor Boiler for a year now and are still amazed with its capabilities. We have the ML 42. It heats our home, the shop, a dog boarding kennel as well as our hot water and swimming pool. It is so nice to only have to put wood in twice a day and know that all will stay warm. After researching tirelessly on the internet and numerous phone calls to different dealers, John Moore Jr and Sr were the only ones who took the time to entertain my technical questions on this system and provide the information that I was looking for. Knowledge, customer support after the sale and having the parts in stock are the key ingredients to any good sale."

- "Very early this spring we purchased a Portage & Main furnace. Several days after start up, we turned off the breaker for our electrical hot water tank element and were very impressed by how the system met our hot water requirements completely as well as heating requirements, of course. We were also surprised to see snow lying unmelted on top of the dual pex pipe on mornings after a snow. (Dual pex pipe was still on top of ground.) My father and I have built several stoves previously, I chose P&M furnace due to its construction, welding and forced air drafts. I am finding its efficiency to be better that I expected."

What Customers are Saying About Portage & Main Outdoor Water Furnaces with Stokers...
- "I have been using my first Portage & Main Outdoor Water Furnace (boiler) for two seasons, I am very happy with the savings. I heat a 20,000 sq. ft. building with 20 ft. ceilings, called the Emerson Duty Free Shop. Our monthly heating bills used to be close to our now yearly heating bills using coal. The Portage & Main Outdoor Water Furnace/boiler is an efficient design. I have been impressed enough to purchase a second unit for another location. I have been involved with alternative burning units for over 10 years and see the quality manufacturing and design for efficiency in the Portage & Main. Most likely, I will be purchasing a third unit for another location. This is a very efficient unit. This is an excellent hot water system that is very cost efficient. I think you have a very good unit. I am happy it is working perfect. I would recommend it to anyone with a larger heating requirements."
~ Michael R.- Manitoba, Canada
- "We purchased a Portage & Main fully self-contained coal burning unit in 2006. The built-in coal hopper eliminates potential coal freezing problems. It has not had any problem heating a 10,000 sq ft. shop in Northern Alberta. We have not had any problems with the unit. The drive system is heavy-duty and the efficiency seems quite good. This is the second coal heating system we have purchased through PA Hydronic Heating solutions as we also heat our riding arena using coal and find it also very economical. We have used in-floor heating and special Shinook ceiling hung air handlers for great comfort. This was also supplied by PA Hydronic Heating Solutions."
